Comprehensive Textbook of Echocardiography
by Navin C NandaThis video clip shows parasternal long-axis inflow of the right ventricle with color Doppler study. Mild tricuspid regurgitation is frequently seen in a normal study. Its velocity can be measured here by continuous wave (CW) Doppler, although it is best to do multiple measurements to find the view where the tricuspid regurgitation (TR) jet is most parallel to the CW Doppler line of interrogation. A large size of the jet from inferior vena cava into the right atrium suggests high cardiac output. Occasionally, a ridge separating the inferior vena cava from the coronary sinus is seen in this view. The tricuspid valve leaflets are not thickened and do not prolapse into the right ventricle (IVC: Inferior vena cava; RA: Right atrium; RV: Right ventricle; SVC: Superior vena cava; TR: Tricuspid regurgitation).
