About Video

The versatility of the V-Y advancement flap (also known as the ‘kite flap’ of Dufourmentel) has been well established. It is a subcutaneous pedicled V-Y advancement flap. This flap can be designed within natural facial creases and heals inconspicuously because of its widely based subcutaneous or muscle pedicle which incorporates venous and lymphatic drainage over most of its length. Due to this, the undesirable flap edema and ‘biscuiting’ that have been observed with many other conventional transposition flaps can be avoided. This video demonstrates the technique of excision of a full thickness defect with reconstruction with a V-Y advancement flap.
