About Video

This video depicts the basic surgical steps. This video demonstrates the use of a partial medial maxillectomy to access a tumor extending into the infratemporal fossa. This shows a situation wherein the tumor has caused blindness due to direct impingement on the optic nerve. Initial debulking of the tumor into two parts allows for easier dissection due to the increased working space, as well as reduces the traction by the tumour on the surrounding vital structures such as the dura, optic nerve etc. Such a ‘controlled’ piecemeal removal of such tumors is only made possible due to preoperative embolization.
