About Video

This video demonstrates the surgery for fungal sinusitis (extramucosal). It is important to achieve a wide clearance of the sinuses so as to completely evacuate the debris from the sinuses and allow for adequate ventilation. It is also equally important to ensure that all the fungal debris can be flushed out with rigorous saline irrigation so as to prevent recurrence. Some centers even advocate the use of antifungal nasal washes to ensure that the extramucosal fungal load is kept in control. However, a wide opening of all the sinuses, combined with copious saline irrigations form an essential part of the treatment. A regular follow-up of such patients is of vital importance, given sometimes aggressive and frequently recurrent nature of this disease.
