Antianxiety drug, also called anxiolyticor minor tranquilizer, any drug that relieves symptoms of anxiety. Antianxiety agents include benzodiazepines, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), and miscellaneous. Benzodiazepines include alprazolam, chlordiazepoxide, clobazam, clonazepam, diazepam, flurazepam, lorazepam, midazolam, and oxazepam. Miscellaneous include buspirone, hydroxyzine, venlafoxine, and zolpidem. Uses, dosages, and side effects of antianxiety agents are also discussed in this chapter.
