fm9Teaching is not only concerned with imparting knowledge, but also with preparing the students to adjust to life, and to become productive and useful to mankind. While teaching nursing, the faculty never teaches a ‘piece’ of value or information in isolation. When teaching that piece, we are always teaching it as a meaningful aspect of the discipline. It is important for the nurse educator to conceptualize nursing as a discipline.
This book covers a comprehensive in-depth content matter on nursing education. The emphasis is also made for the student-teacher to introspect her role in the classroom and clinical settings. I hope this book will enable the students to understand the various new teaching and learning methodologies, and also how to use instructional media in teaching. Special emphasis has been laid on the curriculum, evaluation, guidance and counseling, and standards in nursing education. This book will be extremely useful to master nursing students as it covers the syllabus laid down by the Indian Nursing Council (INC), New Delhi, India.
I am very glad to foreword this book Comprehensive Textbook of Nursing Education by Ms Jaspreet Kaur Sodhi. I hope this will prove beneficial to the budding nursing educators.

Preface
fm11Nursing practice is both the source and goal of nursing knowledge. Selecting and creating effective nursing education method relies on an understanding that the content of nursing encompasses the goals and methods of the practice of nursing and the integral connections with distinctive practice-related knowledge.
This book Comprehensive Textbook of Nursing Education has been written keeping in mind to cover the complete syllabi of the nursing education according to Indian Nursing Council (INC), New Delhi. My goal in writing this book was to furnish a comprehensive knowledge about nursing education to both the graduate as well as the undergraduate nursing students. The book comprises seventeen units. Chapters one to fifteen are according to the INC syllabus for the MSc students. Chapter seventeen ‘Lesson Planning and Educational Objectives’ is sub-division of chapter two ‘Teaching and Learning Process.’ An additional chapter sixteen, ‘Information, Education and Communication (IEC) for Health’ has been incorporated in the book to accommodate the needs of the undergraduate students, such as communication, interpersonal relationship, educational objectives and IEC for health.
The text is supported with suitable examples, e.g. calculation of item analysis, which will make the subject of nursing education more interesting. An additional attraction of this book are the annexures covering the practical dimension of nursing education. Annexures in the book include various formats, such as the format for lesson plan, cumulative record, and master rotation plan. This book provides integration of both the theory and practical elements.
I have made the best endeavor to make the book increasingly useful to the students and fellow teachers. Efforts have been made to reduce the errors to minimum but still if certain errors creep in, I welcome the readers to provide their valuable suggestions and feedback for the improvement of the book at jaspreetsodhi10@gmail.com.
