Abstract

\"Women hold up half the sky\", this phrase conveys much more than a mere demographic statistic, Chairman Mao has used this phrase as a wake-up call for women emancipation and gender equality. This philosophy led to significant changes in the role of women in Chinese society and economy. Diabetes impacts boys and girls, men and women. From a biomedical perspective, however, it places a greater than fair burden on girls and women, on mothers and wives. The occurrence of pregnancy in preexisting diabetes, or new onset diabetes in pregnancy [gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM)] represents a major event in a woman’s life. Women with diabetes represent an opportunity to improve the quality of health, in themselves, their family, community and their offspring.
