Foreword
Diabetes remains a very important public health problem in our country. The number of patients who are suffering from this dreadful disease continues to grow at an alarming rate and we need to find a way to curve this alarming number.
Education remains a very important key to success. We need to train more doctors, nurses, and support teams, to be effective armies in this battle against diabetes. We need to do more, and we have to bridge the gap between what we know and what we should know in our fight against diabetes.
The “RSSDI Diabetes Update 2020” is a very good compilation of information on diabetes, written in a very lucid manner. Each chapter has been well written for easy reading and has completeness of information. A lot of effort has gone into creation of this book by the editors and contributing authors who are experts in the science of diabetes. The book has discussed many important areas from Basic Research, Epidemiology, Diagnostic Dilemmas, Modalities of Current Glucose Monitoring, Therapeutics, Research, and Technology to Critical Appraisals of Future Treatments. RSSDI Diabetes Update 2020 needs to be on your must-read list.
I congratulate Dr Banshi Saboo, Dr Ch Vasanth Kumar, Dr Sanjay Agarwal, and the entire executive committee for organizing the RSSDI 2020 Virtual Meeting and for compiling this update of the proceedings.

Preface
The “RSSDI Diabetes Update 2020” is a reference book for all the latest updates which have been discussed in the last 1 year since the book released in 2019. We are proud to present this book which bears thoughts from various authorities in diabetes, from India and abroad. These authors have done immense work in their respective fields and have given their chapters the most updated information.
In today's era, where information is updated every second day, new thoughts emerge and old theories dispelled, it is hard for a practicing physician to keep track of all these developments. Each year, this update is a very sought-after book as it contains a repository of all important information related to diabetes till date.
A lot of thought has gone into selecting the topics and great care has been taken to keep the language very simple, accurate, and updated. A great deal of effort has been made to update the new developments in diagnosis and therapeutics. A lot of new trials have been discussed and critical appraisal of these trials has been given. Technology finds a key place, as the future is, how we embed this new area in our clinical lives and use it effectively to treat patients.
A lot of key chapters have been dedicated to molecular science and basic research. The information from these chapters will stimulate interest in young minds, eager to learn the art of research. This is the very ethos of RSSDI which our founder members of this prestigious body visioned. We hope this spark of learning will continue to find a place in young minds for the evolution of science.
This book is dedicated to all the Scientists, Clinicians, Nutritionists, Educators, and many other paramedical staff who have spent a lifetime to improve care for patients with diabetes to give them a better future.
We would like to thank all the contributors for the hard work and time spent in helping to compile all information in this prestigious book, a must-read for all those who care for patients with diabetes!
