5Foreword
Many books about diseases of the oral mucosa, oral manifestations of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), and other diseases of the oral cavity have been published in recent years. Several excellent textbooks of oral pathology have also appeared. In this comprehensive book, Mucocutaneous Lesions in Dentistry, the author has arranged the etiological, clinical and histopathological information of mucocutaneous lesions systematically. This combination will permit a successful search for the correct definitive diagnosis. The subject is written and presented in a simple and lucid style, which makes it easy to understand and interesting to read. Appropriate subject-oriented photographs, tables and illustrations are invaluable contribution. I have no doubt that the simplicity of the text and its exceptional clarity will be much appreciated by the readers. He has also taken care to reduce redundancy within the text whenever possible.

9Preface
It is axiomatic in all branches of medicine that treatment is based on accurate diagnosis. The treatment of mucocutaneous lesions is no exception to this axiom. There are many diseases that affect the orofacial region of the body. Of these, many appear as oral manifestations of dermatologic diseases of the body, while others are purely local oral diseases. Some of these diseases, if not treated, may complicate various tissues of the body. This book, Mucocutaneous Lesions in Dentistry, deals with classification, etiopathogenesis, clinical features, histopathological features, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of each mucocutaneous lesion. This is not a textbook, but a field guide to mucocutaneous diagnosis.
There had been a long-standing demand from BDS and MDS students for a book of “Oral Manifestations of Dermatologic Lesions” which would help them in providing a deductive method of approach in mucocutaneous diagnosis.
This book is structured to cover the essential aspects of mucocutaneous lesions for undergraduate and postgraduate students. It contains 20 chapters with clinical and histopathological photographs and references.
