7Foreword
It is with immense pleasure I am writing the foreword for this important book. Although andrology has been recognized as a subspecialty and special fellowship programs have been introduced in this field in Western countries; this field is yet to be established fully in many countries. With the evolution of Industries and Information Technology Sector; the lifestyle of the people also has changed. With the stress levels climbing up; more and more patients are facing health issues related to andrology. The expanding knowledge and awareness about sexual and fertility problems have also contributed to increasing number of patients with related ailments coming to the outpatient department of Urology. It is worth appreciating the efforts of three distinguished specialists who have brought this concise book to present an overview of this upcoming subspecialty. It is really praiseworthy. This will help aspiring andrologists to catch-up with the rapidly expanding field of andrology and percolate the knowledge to the needy.
This handbook has been written in a simple language and the authors have tried to cover a wide spectrum of areas in andrology. It will definitely be a good source of knowledge and reference for budding andrologists, postgraduates and also for the general physicians. The authors have contributed through their valuable clinical experience to make the book as a compendium in the field of andrology. It covers a vast area ranging from biological aspects of sexuality and fertility to the recent advances including robotics. What makes the book even more lucid is covering topics on female sexual dysfunction extensively and dedicating a chapter on “Setting up an Andrology Suite” which will be of great help to a clinician in establishing the clinic.
I wish this endeavor of the authors a grand success.

9Preface
The book covers male infertility, erectile dysfunction and certain other andrological disorders such as priapism, penile fractures and Peyronie's disease. The initial chapter covers anatomical and physiological aspects of male reproductive system. One chapter has been written on male menopause—its diagnosis and management. The medical and surgical management of the above disorders are covered in the subsequent chapters.
The male infertility portion covers—management of oligospermia, varicocele, cryptorchidism and reconstructive andrological procedures. The ever-neglected subject of female sexual dysfunction has been covered extensively in a separate chapter. A special chapter has been dedicated to vasectomy—its evolution and newer forms of vasectomy such as non-scalpel and non-needle vasectomies and complications and a special mention regarding its reversal.
The pharmacotherapy in andrology has been covered separately for the summarization of the medical management of the common andrological conditions. For budding andrologists, a chapter has been dedicated to setting up andrology suite. The latest innovations such as robotic microsurgical procedures have been included in the last chapter to apprise the postgraduate students about the new technologies developing in this field.
We hope that this book will be of value for general practitioners, urologists and budding andrologists.
