Abstract

Soft tissues connect, support and surround other structures and organs of the body like tendons, ligaments, fascia, skin, and fibrous tissues. Due to their sensitivity they undergo many damages. The various different lesions relating to soft tissues are problems associated with increased heel pad thickness- acromegaly, myxoedema, soft tissue ossification - paraplegia, liposarcoma, parosteal osteosarcoma, linear calcification of soft tissues - werner’s syndrome, atheroma, parasitic calcification - cysticercus cellulosae, calabar swelling; areas of decreased density- hernias, lipohemarthrosis. In case of periarticular soft tissue calcification inflammatory disorders include scleroderma, dermatomyositis and gout. Inflammatory periarticular soft tissue calcification leads to dermatomyositis and degenerative leads to calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate deposition disease.
