11Preface
Over the years, the field of obstetrics and gynecology is witnessing enormous expansion in clinical and basic data as well as tremendous growth in related technology. This growth has also created a greater need to debate many controversial issues that have subsequently arisen. Controversies mainly arise regarding management and follow-up of certain conditions.
As evident from the content of the book, the controversies have been presented encompassing the main unresolved issues of our profession. The various chapters presented here not only consolidate the knowledge but also outline the gaps and lack of evidence to support certain clinical practices.
The approach in the book is to present an overview of the main topics followed by debate on certain controversial issues mainly on management and follow-up; and, at the end, conclusion or recommendations regarding the controversial issues. In the standard textbooks, focus on controversial issues is very few. Thus, the postgraduates need a special book which covers all the controversies to help them, preparing for the theory as well as clinical and viva voce examinations in obstetrics and gynecology.
The book, prepared and produced by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maulana Azad Medical College and Lok Nayak Hospital, New Delhi, India, contains the long teaching experience of the faculties. They are teachers who have been training to postgraduate students for a number of years and are very well aware, how the controversies on any topic can be resolved with some evidence-based recommendations.
We believe that the readers will find the chapters stimulating as a source of updating their knowledge and helpful in the handling of clinical problems with implementation of more rational and individualized treatments. Postgraduates also will find it easier to write a theory question on a controversial topic.
