Dr Satish Gupte has done a wonderful job by bringing out The Short Textbook of Medical Microbiology for Nurses. Our nurses really require such a comprehensive book which was not available earlier for them in the manner in which this book is written.
Nursing profession which has become highly skilled and needs the expertise in their training to fulfill their ambition to become good efficient nurses. This book will go a long way for reaching them the goal in their life.
I wish the book to be trailblazer in the field of Microbiology for nurses.

Noble profession of nursing is attracting students of high ranks in the qualifying examination. To be successful, nurses must have good grasp of specialty of medical microbiology. Nursing students are expected to acquire basic knowledge to the best of their ability especially of sterilization, aseptic invasive procedures, control and spread of infection, etc. As a matter of fact, a student entering nursing profession is in a dilemma that how much information is needed to remember to practice microbiology in day-to-day work in the hospital.
There are a number of books available on microbiology addressed to nursing students. The Short Textbook of Medical Microbiology for Nurses is an attempt to fulfill the actual needs and requirement of nursing students. Material is presented in simple, hand-drawn illustrations and clear meaningful photographs adjusted appropriately between text.
The volume is divided into General Microbiology, Bacterial Genetics, Immunology, Systemic Bacteriology, Virology, Mycology, Parasitology and Clinical Microbiology. More emphasis is given to collection and transportation of clinical specimen to laboratory, laboratory diagnosis of important infectious diseases, hospital infection, disposal of laboratory and hospital wastes, prevention and control of infection, hand hygiene plus nurses and microbiology.
