Abstract

Curriculum is formal and informal content which learners gain knowledge, skills, attitudes, appreciations and values from an institution. It reflects the needs and aspirations of the society concerned. Curriculum is designed in a manner that its contribution is on the path of attainment of the ultimate goals of education. This chapter begins with the exposition of concept, aim, bases of curriculum and general education curriculum to facilitate further understanding. It encompasses nursing curriculum as well, it further widens with the factors influencing curriculum, organization and principles of the development of curriculum. A curriculum model based of Ralph Tyler with a prelude of approaches to curriculum planning and curriculum orientation helps to gain in-depth knowledge of curriculum. This chapter also has focus in the steps in the development of curriculum. Curriculum chapter is further enlarged with sequence of planning which encompass systematic and organized content of course planning, unit planning and lesson planning.
