Abstract

Many proteins have properties to bind certain dyes. Especially albumin binds specifically to several anionic dyes such as bromocresol green (BCG). The albumin – BCG complex absorbs maximally at 630 nm. The intensity of the color formed is directly proportional to albumin concentration in the serum. The interference from other serum proteins are very much minimal because albumin binds much faster with BCG.
