Gastric juice contains HCl, intrinsic factor, pepsin and mucin. Abnormal constituents of gastric juice include lactic acid, bile salts, bile pigments, and starch and blood. Tests for normal and abnormal constituents of gastric juice, and their clinical significance, are elaborated in this chapter.
