Abstract

Degeneration can be unilateral or bilateral, asymmetric with negative family history, affecting mostly peripheral cornea, accompanied by vascularisation. Thus they differ from dystrophies. They can be classified as normal ageing process (involutional degeneration) or as due to local and systemic diseases (noninvolutional degeneration). They can also be classified into axial and peripheral. The involutional degenerations are described under “Age changes”.
