Embalming: Principles and Legal Aspects

The aim of this book is to focus on the principles and legal aspects of embalming. This book has been written with the object of presenting procedures of practical value in the embalming practice. This book consists of 33 chapters, which deals with the art of embalming. It contains a brief historical review of the history of embalming, starting with ancient cultures such as the Egyptians and the lesser known Chinchorro culture, then going down the centuries and describing the anatomical techniques developed over the last two centuries. It also deals in detail with the chemicals used for embalming purposes. This edition includes the several approaches to evaluating embalming methods, their suitability for biomechanical testing, anatomical properties, and usability. Care has been taken in the text to provide all the necessary information conforming the Indian environment and availability of resources in any medical school in the country. This book is not a formal treatise on embalming, but aims to give the background knowledge which would assist the practitioner in the legal aspects, methods and fundamentals of embalming.
