The case presentation is the backbone of clinical teaching. Often these case presentations are selected because they are complex, interesting or both. In general, a clinical case is selected by the student in consultation with the clinical instructor. The cases are chosen with a definite goal in mind. Arrange the time to focus on that goal. This method of teaching complex material has been used extensively in nursing. It is particularly useful to teach content that has many different possible solutions, each with its merits and drawbacks. A case presentation consists of the components following as objective, description of the case, preparation and analysis, discussion, presentation, conclusion, and feedback. The purposes of case presentation is to provide opportunity for student nurses to demonstrate their clinical work, to receive peer consultation from other participants along with supervision from the clinical instructor, and to practice their proto-supervisory skills in nursing.
