Abstract

Aorta is the biggest artery, which carries oxygenated blood from left ventricle. The main divisions of aorta are arch of the aorta, thoracic aorta and abdominal aorta. Aorta is the main trunk of arterial system. Aortic valve originates at the base of aorta. This area is called as ascending aorta. Coronary arteries branches at this point. Ascending aorta continues as arch of aorta, which passes down and form thoracic aorta and then abdominal aorta. The common aortic conditions are aortic aneurysm, aortic dissection and aortitis. Aortic arch syndrome or Takayasu’s syndrome or pulseless disease (non-specific arteritis) is a rare, systemic, inflammatory, largevessel vasculities. It causes inflammation of the aorta and its major branches. Aneurysm is localized or diffused outpouching or dilation of an artery. It is most common problem involving the aorta. A sac or dilation form at a weak point in the aortic wall. Aneurysma are permanent dilation and tends to enlarge gradually.
