Tendinopathy is a clinical syndrome characterized by tendon thickening and chronic localized pain that can be caused by acute trauma or more commonly by overuse. The pathophysiology of tendinopathy is important to understand when treating the patient. When inflammation of a tendon occurs as the primary cause of tendinopathy, this is referred to as tendinitis. The upper extremity tendons that are commonly affected are displayed in an easily accessible table format, in a proximal to distal fashion, discussing causes/risk factors, patient history, physical examination findings and treatment options.
