This chapter gives an approach to elbow pain. If pain is on the lateral aspect of the elbow, extensor tendinopathy is most common. This is associated with repetitive forearm pronation and supination with the elbow in near extension. Initial treatment typically consists of activity modifications, counterforce bracing, anti-inflammatory medications, and physical therapy. Advanced imaging with ultrasound or MRI may be obtained if pain does not resolve. Refractory cases or cases of pain more than 18 months can be referred for surgery, and most approaches involve excision of degenerative tissue and/or release of extensor carpi radialis brevis tendon.
