Abstract

This chapter discusses the vascular headache (HA) or migraine headache (HA) and cluster headache disorders. Vascular headache is a term for HA that has fallen out of favor. This classification previously referred to migraine and cluster HA. Currently, the International Headache Society recognizes migraine HA as a primary HA type and cluster HA as a subtype of trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias (TACs). Cluster HAs are different from migraine HAs and this can often be determined with history alone. Cluster HAs are best known for the sympathetic symptoms and are usually accompanied by a feeling of restlessness or agitation. Men are affected more frequently than women. Cluster HAs attacks may occur several times daily for days to months over 2 weeks to 3 months. Treatment of vascular HA or migraine HA and cluster HA are also described in this chapter.
