Antihypertensives includes ACE inhibitors, adrenergics, centrally acting antiadrenergics, peripherally acting antriadrenergics, angiotensin receptor antagonists, beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, diuretics, and vasodilators. These agents are used to treat hypertension of various etiologies. Oral treatment is used for long-term control and parenteral therapy for hypertensive emergencies. Goal of therapy is to decrease BP to near normal levels and prevent end organ damage. Uses, dosage, and side effect of all these drugs are also covered in this chapter.
