Abstract

The shape of the pulp system is a reflection of the outline of the surface of the crown and root. In other words, the pulp tends to be a miniaturization of and conform to the tooth surface. The pulp cavity is the central cavity within the tooth and is entirely enclosed by dentine except at the apical foramen, lateral and accessory canals. The pulp space may be divided into coronal portion (the pulp chamber) and the radicular portion (the root canal). Every root canal has its own individual form; therefore guidelines are required in both endodontic practice and research for the purpose of simplification.
