Abstract

The endodontic armamentarium has grown dramatically over the past 50 or more years, and the basic instruments and materials have been either modified or developed to evolve new shapes and forms for improved performance. Successful Endodontic treatment is based on the principles of debridement, sterilization, and obturation of the root canal system. However, the mechanical preparation of pulp space is not easily achieved since the pulp space anatomy is highly complex. The conventional instruments used in endodontics (from access preparation to pulp space obturation) have evolved and made way for the improved and modified versions of the present. Standardization of instruments provided a strong foundation for both the manufactures and clinicians to provide uniform and standardized treatment procedures in endodontics. To improve the speed and efficiency of the treatment, recently there has been a resurgence of mechanized or automated system for both preparation and sealing of root canal system.
