The book “Lectures on the ART of Surgery” is a collection of the last 2 decades of teachings in the “ART of Surgery” classes organized in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital which cover the essential knowledge required for safe surgery. This book prepares the trainees and the trained surgeons alike to enable them to come out victorious in the battleground of the operation theater. This book is comprised of 4 sections that discuss concepts and attitude, surgeon and his tools, young surgeon as the first responder, and ward procedure skills, which are further divided into 42 chapters. This book is majorly focused on how to apply knowledge to improve the outcome and experience of surgical patients. Another important aspect that this book addresses is how to be an efficient young surgeon in control of a situation that can be at times very demanding and challenging. This book, as the name suggests, dwells on the “Art” rather than the science of surgery that is outlined in the first part of the book. This is the “penumbra” of the surgical skills , that every upcoming young surgeon needs to know and inculcate within himself. The other three parts include surgical acumen in wards, roadside trauma, and surgical “tools”.
