This textbook is based on the Revised Indian Nursing Council Curriculum (Semester wise) for B.Sc Nursing course. This book is designed to provide a comprehensive knowledge in the subject Psychology. The text has been organized into 10 chapters. Chapter 1 deals with the history, origin and scope of psychology and also focuses on methods of psychology. Chapter 2 features the mind-body relationship, influence of heredity and environment on behavior, role of nervous system in behavior. The chapter ends with integrated responses of an organism. Chapter 3 deals with mental hygiene and mental health and focuses on preventive mental health strategies and mental health services available in our country. The chapter ends with a detailed account of frustration and conflict. Chapter 4 has been devoted to developmental psychology and the psychology of vulnerable individuals. Chapter 5 gives a classic account on theories of personality development and ends with alteration and factors influencing personality. Chapter 6 incorporates a very detailed description of cognitive processes like attention, perception, learning, memory, thinking, intelligence, and aptitude. Chapter 7 covers topics on motivation and emotional processes with a special focus on related theories. It also includes a detailed description of the stress cycle, sources of stress and adaptation to stress. The chapter ends with a topic on behavior and attitude. Chapter 8 deals with psychological assessment and tests and the role of the nurse. Chapter 9 focuses on the application of soft skills and their nursing implications. It also deals with management of time, resilience, and work-life balance. Chapter 10 covers topics on self-empowerment, professional etiquette, and professional grooming. The chapter ends with the role of a nurse in empowering patients. Each chapter is followed by long essays, short essays, short notes, and multiple-choice questions (MCQs) culled out from the previous examinations. It also includes an exhaustive glossary of various terms used in psychology which is a must for gaining a broad understanding of the subject. A list of bibliographies has been furnished at the end for further reading
