Basic Concepts in Head and Neck Surgery and Oncology

by Krishnakumar Thankappan, Subramania Iyer

The aim of this book is to focus on the basic concepts in head and neck surgery and oncology. Basic concepts in Head and Neck Surgery and Oncology are a comprehensive guide to the fundamentals of surgery for cancers of the head and neck, with emphasis on the diagnosis and management of specific types of tumor. Management of head and neck cancer has changed over the last few decades. This change has occurred due to the better understanding of the pathology and better delineation of the tumor by advances in imaging and diagnostic techniques. This book comprised of 7 sections that include thyroid, salivary glands and parapharyngeal tumors, neck, paranasal sinuses, oral cavity and oropharynx, larynx, hypopharynx and nasopharynx, and general topics, which are further divided into 40 chapters. The contents of this book have been, in a much smaller way given as handout to the annual instructional course in head and neck surgery. Newer modalities of treatment like robotic surgery and immunotherapy, which have taken their place in the treatment armamentarium, are also updated. The book still maintains its simplicity in dealing the subject, but at the same time, tries to reflect the contemporary knowledge.
