Abstract

Surrogacy is an important method of ART wherein a woman carries pregnancy for another couple. Numbers of couples around the world require surrogacy services for various reasons. In recent times, where the need for surrogacy is increasing day by day, delicate issues associated with this practice are ought to be addressed properly. Efforts shall be taken to spread awareness about surrogacy in society to make this arrangement more open and acceptable. Formulation of laws, appropriately designed to protect rights of surrogate mothers, intended parents, and children can make this practice approachable and gratifying experience for all the parties involved. Banning surrogacy will only give rise to underground arrangements. To solve this issue, national and international framework must be set up. this chapter covers a detailed description on types of surrogacy, steps involved in surrogacy process, risks associated with surrogacy, various aspects and concern involved in surrogacy, surrogacy legislation, and surrogacy in India and guidelines for surrogacy.
