BOOK TITLE: Principles and Practice of Assisted Reproductive Technology
This chapter seeks to familiarize the readers with the monitoring of ovarian stimulation. Ovulation may need to be induced in anovulatory cycles or during timed intercourse (TI), intrauterine insemination (IUI), and in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles. Aim of ovulation induction can be monofollicular growth or multifollicular growth. Ovulation inducing agents (tablets and gonadotropins) cause follicular growth as well as hormonal changes in the ovary. There are two methods of monitoring, i.e. biochemical or hormonal monitoring and clinical monitoring. Stages of the monitoring, choosing methods of monitoring, abnormal responses in ovarian stimulation, and hormonal monitoring of ovarian stimulation are the important topics which are discussed thoroughly in this chapter.
