The digestive system includes the digestive tract and its accessory organs, which process food into molecules that can be absorbed and utilized by the cells of the body. The GIT is concerned with mastication, deglutition, digestion and absorption of food and elimination of waste products from the body. It extends from mouth to anus where in both regions it becomes continuous with epidermis of skin. Parts of GIT are mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine and associated glands. The associated glands are salivary glands (parotid, submandibular, sublingual), liver, gallbladder and pancreas. Pharynx is a wide muscular tube situated behind the nose, the mouth and the larynx. It is 12 cm in length and its cavity is divided into three parts. Vermiform appendix is a worm-like diverticulum that arises from posteromedial wall of cecum. It is about 9 cm in length.
