The most convenient radiographic examination is the dental panoramic tomogram popularly known as orthopantomography. This should be supplemented with intraoral radiographs for better image quality. Periapical radiographs should be considered for all heavily restored teeth, teeth with known or suspected endodontic problems and with periodontitis. The treatment planning for implant supported prosthesis should begin with a clear idea of the end result which should fulfill the functional and aesthetic demands of the patient. It is essential that all caries, endodontic lesions and periodontal diseases be treated before embarking on any implant treatment. The minimal clinical examination should include the restorative status, periodontal screening, jaw relationship and occlusion. Implant-retained fixed bridges, implant-retained overdentures, single tooth restorations, planning considerations, functional considerations, aesthetic considerations, etc. are also discussed in this chapter.
