This book focuses on Gems of Ophthalmology—Retina. Retina is a photosensitive layer of eyeball that conveys electrical impulses to the brain. A healthy retina is essential for the normal vision. An array of diseases can affect the retina which may often impair vision. They include retinitis, retinopathies, vascular occlusions, retinal detachment and degenerations. The book Gems of Ophthalmology—Retina covers a wide range of retinal diseases. Initial chapters have been devoted to the diagnostic procedures pertaining to the retinal diseases. Ophthalmoscopy, fluorescein angiography, indocyanine green angiography, and fundus autofluorescence are helpful in reaching to a correct diagnosis of retinal disorders. Choroidal imaging, with enhanced depth imaging and swept source optical coherence tomography, is a new modality for measuring the thickness of choroid, is being increasingly used in clinical practice. Diabetic retinopathy, hypertensive retinopathy and retinal vein occlusions are frequently encountered retinal disorders. The pathomechanism of diabetic macular edema (the most common cause of visual loss in diabetic retinopathy) and central serous chorioretinopathy are critically described.
