Abstract

Early-onset preeclampsia (PE) is onset before 34 weeks of pregnancy, intermediate onset—between 34–37 weeks, late-onset PE—after 37 weeks. Early-onset PE is less common than the late form, but contributes most to maternal mortality and morbidity. The aim of screening is to start prevention or PE therapy. Estimation of risk for preeclampsia (fetal medicine foundation) screening protocols in various countries, and implications for practice are discussed in this chapter. Screening of preeclampsia by mean arterial pressure BP measurement (MAP = DP + 1/3 (SP-DP). Uterine artery Doppler screening between 22 weeks and 24 weeks’—resistance index (RI); presence or absence of notch determined.
