Abstract

Diencephalon is one of the subdivisions of prosencephalon. It develops from the neural tube. It has four subparts. They are thalamus, hypothalamus, epithalamus, and subthalamus. The cavity of diencephalon is third ventricle. It communicates with each lateral ventricle through interventricular foramen of Monro and with the fourth ventricle through the aqueduct of Sylvius. Thalamus is the major part of diencephalon. It is oval in shape. It has two ends such as anterior end and posterior end. Epithalamus is one of the subdivisions of diencephalon. It develops as a diverticulum from diencephalon part of neural tube. Hypothalamus is one of the subdivisions of diencephalon. It develops as a diverticulum from the neural tube. It is present inferior to thalamus separated by the hypothalamic sulcus.
