Abstract

Neuron is the nerve cell body. It may have one or two or more processes. The long process of a neuron is a nerve fiber. Nerves conduct the impulses. A motor nerve conducts impulses from either brain or spinal cord to skeletal muscles. A sensory nerve conducts impulses from peripheral sensory receptors to either spinal cord or brain. The nerve may or may not be covered by myelin sheath. There are 12 pairs of cranial nerves being attached to different parts of brain. There are spinal nerves, a pair of them being attached to each segment of spinal cord. This chapter covers the typical spinal nerve, cervical plexus, brachial plexus, cranial nerves, functional components of cranial nerve nuclei, cervical sympathetic chain, ciliary ganglion, otic ganglion, and pterygopalatine ganglion. Otic Ganglion is one of the parasympathetic ganglion located in the infratemporal fossa. It is anatomically attached to nerve to medial pterygoid, a branch of mandibular division of trigeminal nerve.
