Abstract

Anterior part of head region is face that extends vertically from frontal region to chin and horizontally from one side of ear to the opposite ear. Face has all the special sensory organs. In male, skin over the face shows the effects of hormonal changes from puberty, by growth of hair. Skin over the eyelid is loosely attached but over the nose, it is adherent to the deep structures. The only place in the body where mucous membrane is exposed is over the lips. All sorts of emotions are expressed over the face by a group of voluntary muscles, which are attached to the skin. These muscles are present in the superficial plane. General perception from face is carried by all three major divisions of fifth cranial nerve or trigeminal nerve. This chapter covers the dermatomes of face, blood supply of face, venous drainage of face, lymphatic drainage of the face, muscles of facial expression, orbicularis oculi, orbicularis oris, buccinator, and lacrimal apparatus.
