Interior of skull is studied by observing internal features of vault of skull and base of skull. Vault of skull is formed by frontal bone, a pair of parietal bone and occipital bone which join at coronal, sagittal, and lambdoid sutures. The interior surface of base of skull is divided into anterior, middle and posterior cranial fossae. Vermian fossa is a triangular depression in the midline posterior to foramen magnum. It lodges vermis of cerebellum. Internal occipital crest is a sharp ridge in the midline of occipital bone. Jugular tubercle is a raised part of the occipital bone lateral to the foramen magnum and medial to jugular foramen. The structures crossing or related over there are glossopharyngeal nerve, vagus nerve and accessory nerves.
