Abstract

The aim of this chapter is to focus on the classification of ocular trauma and evaluation of patient. Ocular trauma is a significant disabling public health problem in both developed and developing countries. The 5-year incidence of ocular trauma was 1.6% and cumulative lifetime prevalence was 19.8%, in the Beaver Dam Eye Study. Ocular injuries are reported to be more common in males than in females and also are more common in younger population less than 40 years.3 The most common causes in males were outdoor-related (30.9%), work-related (25.4%) and sports-related (17.5%) injuries; and in females were home-related (52.2%) and outdoor-related injuries (30.4%). Ocular trauma can be classified into nonmechanical and mechanical injuries. Mechanism of ocular injury and evaluation of a case of ocular trauma are also discussed in this chapter.
