Abstract

This chapter deals with the discussion on antifungal drugs. There has been a recent increase in incidence and severity of fungal infections, and emergence of unusual and drugs resistant forms due to use of broad spectrum anti-microbial agents (AMAs), anticancer drugs and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). All these decrease host defense mechanisms. Antifungal drugs are classified into antifungal antibiotics, antimetabolites, azoles, miscellaneous, and topical which are discussed broadly in this chapter. Drugs used in superficial fungal infections and drugs for systemic fungal infections are also covered in this chapter.
