Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is chronic granulomatous disease. Incidence has increased due to spread of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). Antituberculosis drugs are classified as first-line (standard), second-line (reserve), newer, tuberculocidal, and tuberculostatic which are discussed briefly in this chapter. World Health Organization (WHO) recommends multidrug therapy (MDT) for all cases of TB. Objectives of MDT and WHO guidelines for TB treatment are defined briefly in this chapter. Tuberculosis is a relative contraindication for use of glucocorticoids. Certain situations where corticosteroids are used in TB are also covered in this chapter.
