Abstract

This chapter focuses on the estimation of serum triglycerides or triacylglycerol. Triglycerides (TG) or triacylglycerols (TAG) are major dietary lipids as well as storage form of lipids in our body found mainly in adipose tissues. Their primary function is to provide energy in conditions like starvation. Glycerophosphate-Oxidase Method (GPO-PAP) is the method for estimation of serum triglycerides or triacylglycerol. Serum TG is usually required to calculate the LDL cholesterol (by Friedewald’s formula) as well as to indentify different types of hyperlipoproteinemia.
