A biopsy is the removal of tissue from any part of the living body in order to examine it for pathological diagnosis. In a clinical case, after taking history, detailed clinical examination, radiological and laboratory investigations, a provisional clinical diagnosis is made with a list of differential diagnoses. Various methods of taking biopsy are cytology-based procedures, needle biopsy, incision or wedge biopsy, excision biopsy, and endoscopic biopsy. Frozen section is a procedure performed for the rapid tissue diagnosis of the biopsy specimen and is primarily used in suspected cases of malignancy. Frozen section is indicated to differentiate between benign and malignant lesion.
