This chapter describes ethical and legal aspects in nursing. Duty of care is a fundamental aspect of nursing, and many nurses consider this to be an important part of their professional duties as a nurse. Ethical principles in nursing include respect the person, equality, veracity, confidentiality (promote privacy and holding the secrets of patients), nonmaleficence, beneficence, autonomy, justice, fidelity, and principles of totality and integrity. Ethical theories and model of ethical decision making are also discussed in the table format.
