Pregnancy, also known as gestation, is the time during which one or more offspring develops inside a woman. Childbirth usually occurs in three stages. First stage is the time of the onset of true labor until the cervix is completely dilated to 10 cm. Second stage is the period after the cervix is dilated to 10 cm until the baby is delivered. Third stage is the delivery of the placenta. Basic terms in pregnancy, signs and symptoms in pregnancy, danger signs in pregnancy, mechanisms of labor, stages of labor, and fetal heart rate are discussed in the table and flowchart format.
