This chapter seeks to familiarize the readers with the identification of solid media such as nutrient agar, blood agar and MacConkey agar and bacterial growth on these media. A detailed discussion on scheme for identification of bacterial growth on solid and in liquid media is also provided. Characteristic features in Gram staining from culture, colonial morphology of an organism from solid media are also defined in this chapter. Appropriate biochemical tests for presumptive and confirmatory diagnosis are also described. Important questions related to Pseudomonas Aeruginosa, Staphylococcus Aureus, Streptococcus spp., Proteus spp., Escherichia Coli, Klebsiella spp., Shigella spp., and salmonellae are also given in this chapter along with their crisp and to the point answers.
