This chapter describes urinary antiseptics, which include disodium hydrogen citrate, nitrofurantoin, potassium citrate, and phenazopyridine. Drugs acting on genital urinary system are the indication of disodium hydrogen citrate. Acute uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTI) and prophylaxis of uncomplicated UTI are the indications of nitrofurantoin. Severe renal impairment, hypersensitivity to nitrofurans, G6PD deficiency, pregnancy at term are the contraindications of nitrofurantoin. Nausea, vomiting, anorexia, abdominal pain, diarrhea, headache, drowsiness, vertigo, dizziness, nystagmus, benign intracranial hypertension, rash, urticaria, pruritus, fever, sialadenitis, angioedema, erythema multiforme, exfoliative dermatitis, pancreatitis, lupus-like syndrome, myalgia, and arthralgia are the adverse effects of nitrofurantoin.
