Abstract

Male genital system includes testis, epididymis, spermatic cord, prostate and penis. Testis is composed of structural units called seminiferous tubules separated by interstitium. The seminiferous tubules are lined by germ cells, which mature to form spermatozoa. The germ cells are supported by Sertoli cells. The interstitial tissue contains Leydig cells, which secrete testosterone. Tunica vaginalis is a mesothelial-lined surface exterior to the testis. Inflammations are more common in the epididymis than in the testis. Epididymitis and subsequent orchitis are commonly due to infections in the urinary tract. Prostate is a gland situated close to the male urethra. It consists of two lateral lobes and a median lobe. Microscopically, it consists of glands surrounded by fibromuscular stroma. Usual histological type of carcinoma of penis is squamous cell carcinoma. Invasive squamous cell carcinoma of the penis is a slowly growing, locally invasive, and nonpainful tumor.
