Abstract

The field of interventional cardiology has been growing rapidly over the last few years. More and more people prefer minimally invasive methods of treatment over invasive surgeries. These methods provide excellent outcomes as compared to conventional treatment. Catheter-based interventions which are increasingly being done are transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), percutaneous mitral valve (MV) repair, percutaneous closure of paravalvular leakages (PVL), left atrial appendage (LAA) closure and atrial septal defect (ASD) closure. Most of these structural interventions are guided by echocardiography, most often under transesophageal echocardiography guidance. Intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) is increasingly being used these days for guiding percutaneous interventional procedures such as closure of atrial septal defects and during electrophysiological procedures.
